X-metal
is a material process developed by Hoon Kim in which liquid metal casting is cut into individual strips and reassembled by hand.
The “X” refers to scissors — the act of cutting.
Rather than treating metal as a solid mass, X-metal transforms it into accumulated lines, rhythm, and surface. Each cut becomes both a mark and a structural unit, creating a metallic skin that exists between metal, textile, and architecture.
X-metal can be developed in a wide range of metals, colors, scales, and applications — from furniture and sculptural objects to architectural surfaces and lighting.
